As a first time mom, I can wholeheartedly say that this list is most of my must haves for bringing home a baby. For most of them you can always look at other brands, like the diaper pail or play gym, any brand would work. However the list I've complied uses all the brands I've loved so far in my journey. I'm gonna tell you why it's a must have and then tell you about the specific ones I use and why I've loved it. Some of the items are exclusive to breastfeeding moms but most are for every mom! So without further a do here is my 15 must haves for any first time Mom's!
While I was skeptical at first about needing a special can for diapers, I was wrong. OMG do baby diapers stink, especially after sitting around. While I'd love to say 'I'll just take them out each time', that's a dream, you'll never have the time. So after so many friends recommended getting one I caved and found this one. The Ubbi diaper pail is made of metal and keeps the smell completely locked inside. The biggest reason I chose this one from the mass of options is that you can use your own trash bags! However for those who really want to buy the brand of bags that go with the can, they have some you can buy. If you have another brand in mind that's fine but no matter what, you need yourself a diaper pail.

2. Philips Avent Soothies Elephant
While I originally bought this so we wouldn't lose her pacifier while she was in her car seat. It soon became her best friend. Every baby needs some type of pacifier clip but I really think the toy clips are the best. It's so convenient when you can pull the pacifier off and throw the buddy in the washer. It also has an additional holder for pacifiers that aren't compatible with the special Avent clip. While I do use Avent I plan plan to use the other clip for her teethers. I also find it easier to use than the Wubbanubs since its got a moveable clip. Which is perfect for when she messes with the toy, now the pacifier won't pull right out of her mouth.
3. Nose picker
When having a baby your first thought isn't, how to get the boogers out but let me tell you, it should be. Baby boogers are ridiculous, they can clog up a whole nostril. That's why, I love this tool. I've considered getting a second one for my diaper bag. It's perfect for getting those gross boogers out of you little ones nose. It also has a picker for the ears and the nails. I haven't had to use those much yet but the convenience of being able to switch between them is great. Plus the travel case is nice for storing it. Although I like it a lot, I do have to admit my daughter is not a fan at all, but it's more because she hates when I mess with her boogers.
4. Soother
White nosie machines or soothers might sound silly at times, I mean your phone could work, but then you are stuck phoneless for as long as baby needs it. This one is a total game changer. It's small, can clip to the car seat or stroller, or fit right into the diaper bag. I got stuck in the hospital a second time right after I had my baby for preeclampsia, so I brought this with me and it helped her sleep so much. I still use it all the time. I'd honestly recommend buying this before the baby comes and then taking it with you to the hospital. It has two time settings 20mins or 40mins which is nice. Also for such a small sound maker it can go pretty loud and it's got clear sound.
5. Hatch Smart Changing Pad and Scale
While this wasn't a necessity, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I bought this because my daughter was losing weight after some complications with breastfeeding and this gave me back my piece of mind. I also really like the app for tracking the rest of her activities. The actual changing pad seems comfortable and my daughter loves being on it. The scale is as far as I can tell pretty close to accurate. I weighed our 2lbs and 12lbs weights on it and the measurements were super close, if anything it's possible the actual weighs are slightly off. Plus with the app you can track not only the babies weight but also diapers, feedings, length, pumping, and it even has a note section which I use to record tummy time, baths, nail trimmings, etc. With the feeding you can also tell it your feeding and it will weigh them before and then again after so you can see how much they actually ate while breastfeeding. My favorite part is the stats. It takes a week of data and shows the average of all her stuff. Another fun thing is the daily schedule which you can compare everyday and see patterns in babies routine. To round of a great app it also has a thing for a daily picture of your tiny human.
6. Humidifier
First, every baby needs a humidifier, but what makes this one so great is it has a big opening, so you can actually get your hand in to clean out the whole basin. It also has a special light that is supposed to kill bacteria. So far I really love it. It runs for a good 24hours on the lower setting and holds about a liter of water. It also makes a great night light, it's not too bright but gives off a good glow.
7. Bottle Drying Rack
If you are like me and hand wash most of your dishes you'll need a drying rack for all the parts that come with the bottles, breast pumps, sippy cups, etc. While I definitely put this on my registry because it was cute, not because I actually thought it would be functional. It is however functional and fun! I love how easy it is to pick the grass up and dump the excess water. Also they have a few accessories to make organizing it so simple. I bought the Twig which is actually pictured above in the grass. I use it to hold the bottle rings and nipples so I can save space for bottles, and breast pump parts. Also because it's just a bunch of standing up blades of grass, you can put anything anywhere you want to dry easily.
8. Bottle Brushes
A bottle brush set is a serious must if you plan to bottle feed at all. You need more than just the bottle brush itself. Now I'm sure there are tons of other brushes for washing your bottles, some may even be better, but these definitely win on the cute factor as well as the convenience factor. They have this wonderful holder that has holes under each brush, so they are never sitting in water. Also you can pull it open to dump and excess water that has drained off of them. It also comes with four different brushes. All of which were super useful when cleaning those various breast pump parts and bottle parts. Plus it matches your new Boon Lawn.
9. Haakaa
The Haakaa is something every breastfeeding mom will hear about at some point. It's the total package. It helps catch all the let down you usually lose while breastfeeding. So basically you pop this sucker (pun intended) on your baby free boob and bamn 1-2oz of pure breastmilk gold that is uauly lost in your breastpads. Of course you may even catch more, I had a low supply so saving over an ounce from just soaking in a pad felt like a true victory. You can also use it to help let down engorgement. The only sad part is this doesn't replace a regular pump. It can't empty your boobs fully. I really wish I'd gotten the haakaa and used it from the very beginning instead of waiting until my breastfeeding journey was almost over.
10. Washable Nursing Pads

If you hate waste as much as me, you'll understand why these are on my list. I really hated using disposable breastpads, I felt like I was just tossing them so much. I also hated all the little papers and pieces that the packaging created. So I started looking into washable ones and found these. I absolutely love them. I honestly prefer the night times ones just because they hold more which makes me feel more secure, but the day time ones work just as well. They are super soft and comfortable too. Really worth the money when you aren't having to keep buying boxes of breastpads.
11. Silicone Milk Storage Pouches
As well as hating waste, I try to avoid plastic at all costs, so finding these was super exciting. I found them super easy to use and clean. I personally never got to try them in the freezer. I never made enough to need to freeze my milk but they were great for storing my milk in the fridge. My favorite feature is they stand alone. Each pouch holds 6oz of milk and is easy to pour from. You can also write the dates on them with ease, with an expo marker. They also come in a bigger pack that comes with a tray for the fridge or freezer to keep them better organized.
12. Baby Play gym
Play gyms are super important for baby to learn to use there arms and to have better hand skills. I really just bought this one because I love Nemo. It turns out it was a great buy. My daughter loves the music and lights, as well as batting at all the hanging toys. The little reef pillow is perfect for tummy time, especially if your baby isn't a fan of being directly on their tummy.
13. Sensory Toy
Toys like these are awesome because they have so many things for baby to explore. This toy was a gift but I can honestly say it's been the best toy. My daughter loves the crinkly ears so much. Also watching her finally getting her hands to the little tags was exciting. It also plays music and lights up when you press it's foot. I can't wait until she figures out how to get it to play.
14 . Swing/Bouncer
Every baby should have a swing and bouncer. When they are little the swing it's perfect for rocking them to sleep, and the bouncer is great if you need to give them a place to hang while doing dishes or what not. This particular one is really great because it's both. The bouncer detaches easily so you can move it anywhere. It also vibrates which is great. It also has the different directions which means they can swing side to side, or back and forth. It also plays music or nature sounds.
15. The Boppy
Oh boy do I love my Boppy. From nusing when they are small, to being able to prop her up for play time now that she's older, this had been an awesome item. They are also great for when you are taking pictures at home. Just place the Boppy down, drape blanket over it, and add baby for a great photo shoot spot. It can also be used for tummy time, and later for sitting support. I honestly don't know what I would do without this super versatile pillow. I personally got the naked Boppy and bought a cover with elephants on it! I love being able to just toss the cover in the wash.
